Featuring tacks by Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Pantera, Stone Temple Pilots, and a host of others, the soundtrack to The Crow is almost perfectly suited to the film, and features heavily throughout. Which makes sense: Crow creator James O’Barr went so far as to print lyrics by The Cure right on the printed page.

That said, big name bands don't always make for a winning soundtrack, but it's how well the song selection fits the movie, and how good the album flows as a whole, that makes this soundtrack work. A number of bands provided never before released cover tracks for the album, including Pantera (The Badge) and NIN (Dead Souls). Stone Temple Pilots were set to go a similar route, covering themselves to an extent, with a song called Only Dying that was originally recorded when they were known as Mighty Joe Young. However, after Brandon Lee was killed during the final days of filmmaking, the song was pulled, and instead, Big Empty was contributed, before it appeared on the album Purple.

It's actually the lesser names that steal the show on this album however. While The Cure's Burn was the biggest hit from the album, Machines of Loving Grace and My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult have two of the best tracks, in Golgotha Tenement Blues and After The Flesh respectively.
