10 Movie Spinoffs You Didn't Know Were Coming

1. Furiosa

After the wildfire of critical and commercial success that was 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road, you would've had a hard time convincing viewers that they would be waiting nearly a decade for any sort of follow-up to George Miller's masterpiece.

Indeed, the wait has gone on for so long that fans may have forgotten - or simply been unaware - that 2024 will see a return to Miller's unabashedly insane universe to tackle the origin story of one of Fury Road's brightest points, Imperator Furiosa.

The news of this Mad Max spinoff is ridiculously exciting. Furiosa was such an incredible character that the titular Max takes a literal and metaphorical back seat to Charlize Theron for large swathes of the deranged chase through the wasteland. While Theron - and Tom Hardy as Max, for that matter - will not be returning for this 2024 outing, audiences can rest easy that the one-armed wrecking machine's portrayal is in safe hands.

Anya Taylor-Joy, instantly recognizable from her superb performances in The Queen's Gambit and Peaky Blinders, is stepping into Furiosa's boots for the spinoff, which will also star Marvel icon Chris Hemsworth in an undisclosed role. Devoted Mad Max acolytes will surely be chomping at the bit to discover how Furiosa loses her arm and finds herself as the driver of Immortan Joe's War Rig.

"Oh what a day! What a LOVELY day!"
