3. Mon Mothma Is Back In Star Wars: Rogue One

If you're a Star Wars fan and don't remember the name Mon Mothma, don't feel too bad. She was a leader of the Rebel Alliance who appeared briefly in Return of the Jedi, as played by Caroline Blakiston.

The character was originally set to re-appear in 2005's Revenge of the Sith, as played by Genevieve O'Reilly, but the part ended up being a deleted scene. However, Mothma was spotted in the debut trailer for Rogue One, with O'Reilly being invite back to reprise the role.

This works out rather serendipitously, as O'Reilly is now age-appropriate to play the predecessor to Blakiston's part, considering how Rogue One fits into the Star Wars timeline.

Not a huge jaw-dropper, perhaps, but certainly a nice surprise for Star Wars fanboys, and if you count the deleted scene as canon, then it will actually tie the prequel trilogy directly into the current run of Star Wars movies.
