10 Movie Trailers That Totally Lied To Audiences

9. Million Dollar Baby

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCDZLsqwH28 In retrospect, this is one plot point I am glad was left out of the trailer, but there's no doubting that mainstream audiences - those who perhaps aren't as open-minded and simply want their expectations satisfied - felt duped by it. Million Dollar Baby is a superb, Oscar-winning drama, albeit one which was pitched to audiences by way of these trailers as essentially a female version of Rocky, with Clint Eastwood playing the grizzled, tortured trainer who will presumably lead Hilary Swank's underdog character to sure glory in the end. The reality? Not so much. SPOILER ALERT. Swank's character suffers a horrific head injury mid-way through the film and spends the rest of it in a coma, while Eastwood consults his conscience and, in the end, euthanises her. Nobody saw this coming, and it made the emotional impact of it all that much more disturbing, but there's no doubt that plenty of people went into the cinema expecting an inspirational underdog story, and came out depressed beyond belief at this melancholic - but poignant and absolutely superb - drama.
