10 Movie Villain ‘Twists’ We Saw Coming A Mile Off
2. Megatron - Transformers: Age Of Extinction
"Megatron is not in the sequel", Michael Bay told Empire magazine. That was way back when publicising Revenge Of The Fallen, wherein Hugo Weaving's big bad Transformer was resurrected so there could be new toys based on him made. So we think it's pretty safe to say you should take whatever Bay says with a pinch of salt.
It did seem, however, that the character wouldn't appear in Age Of Extinction. The only two advertised returning Transformers were series icons Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, while bounty hunter Lockdown looked to be a little more interesting than Megatron, whose character begins and ends with snarling. But, this being a Bay film, where plot logic is thrown out at the first script meeting, any thing can happen because explosions.
In the film Stanley Tucci (the only actor who even tries to do something with the unrealistic dialogue) is attempting to build his own Transformers, chief among them Bumblebee rip-off Stinger and Galvatron, who the remains of Megatron have been used to help construct. You don't need to be an eighties kid (in the cartoon Transformers: The Movie Galvatron is an upgraded Megatron) to see where this is going. And as expected it transpires Galvatron is just a new body for the original baddie, likely done because Hugo Weaving refused to return to the franchise when he realised how crummy the whole enterprise was.
