10 Movie Villains Who Had Warts On Their Souls
8. Dead Silence: Mary Shaw
Released in 2007, Dead Silence was the first horror to come from Fast and Furious franchise icon/blockbuster director James Wan.
Something of a flop with critics upon release, this Ryan Kwanten vehicle saw the True Blood star play a man returning to his hometown after tragedy strikes his young wife, only to discover that the undying spirit Mary Shaw is behind it all.
More memorably remorseless and evil than the villains of later Wan hits such as The Conjuring and Insidious, this monstrous puppeteer devoted her life and afterlife to offing anyone who was ever connected to… some kid who heckled her once.
That's it. Seriously.
Okay, so she was burned for being a witch and is technically coming after the descendants of the townspeople who killed her. But they burned her because of killing said heckler child, and she's maintained this bloody legacy of picking off their offspring for generations. (Evidently it took her a while to hunt down everyone even tangentially attached to the townspeople.)
It's a twisted and dark backstory brought on by the smallest slight, and makes Shaw a villain totally devoid of humanity or redeeming qualities.
