10 Movie Villains Who Unexpectedly Survived Franchises

6. Edwidge Owens - The Purge

The Purge Election Year

The third entry into The Purge franchise, Election Year, introduces one of its most monstrous villains yet - Edwidge Owens (Kyle Secor), a minister and Presidential candidate for the fascist political party The New Founding Fathers of America.

As a high-up member of the NFFA, Owens is an emblem for the hate and racism the party is known for, using the Purge as an excuse to rid the United States of those they deem undesirable.

And if this isn't bad enough, he also plots to have political rival Charlene Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) assassinated, and as a religious tyrant, holds a midnight mass on Purge Night where he orders the slaughter of innocent folk.

There wasn't a single shred of doubt, then, that Owens would get horribly killed by film's end, and yet, it just never happens. Owens' congregation is largely wiped out, for sure, but Roan decides to spare his life so he can watch her defeat him in the election, which she does.

Even so, we infuriatingly never saw Owens pay any sort of mortal price for his crimes.
