10 Movie Villains Who Unexpectedly Survived Franchises

4. Luther Voz - Machete

Machete Kills Mel Gibson

The second Machete film, Machete Kills, introduces a villain who makes every other antagonist in the two movies seem positively sane by comparison - maniacal weapons inventor Luther Voz, played with sadistic glee by Mel Gibson.

Voz's bonkers plan involves manipulating extremists around the world to nuke each other into oblivion while he escapes into space where he intends to rebuild his own "perfect" society.

It seems like a given that Voz will end up cleaved in half by Machete's (Danny Trejo) blade by the end of the movie, except Machete Kills actually ends on a cliffhanger.

Sure, Machete stops the mutually assured destruction gambit from happening, but Voz still flees into space, albeit with a severely burned face, after which he dons a metallic silver mask.

The very end of the movie teases a third film, Machete Kills Again...In Space, where Machete will take Voz down once and for all - with Voz allegedly being played by Leonardo DiCaprio this time - but due to Machete Kills flopping at the box office, this planned sequel was swiftly cancelled.

And so for all we know, Voz is still hanging out in space, doing his thing and slowly building a civilisation.
