10 Movie Villains Who Wanted To Be Caught

3. The Narrator - Fight Club

The Riddler Paul Dano
20th Century Fox

A slightly different entry on the list here, as the only villain who wanted to be caught not as part of a larger plan, but to be legitimately stopped.

The Narrator's (Edward Norton) relationship with Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) evolves incredibly quickly throughout Fight Club, and within days of their chance meeting on an airplane, they are living together and have conceived the idea of the titular Fight Club together. Of course, this swift pace makes more sense with the reveal that they are the same person.

Edward Norton's character essentially created Brad Pitt to be everything that he wanted to be but couldn't, and he soon found himself losing control. Durden was able to put Project Mayhem together and prime their terrorist activities without the Narrator ever really finding out too much.

When the penny did finally drop, and Norton found out that he was Durden and that Project Mayhem was all his doing, he tried to turn himself in to the police. He couldn't stop his alter-ego himself, so he went to authorities to try and get himself locked up. He even told them about Bob's (Meatloaf) body being buried in his backyard.

However, three of the officers he spoke to happened to be a part of Durden's cult, and had been given strict instructions of what to do if he came to the police. Durden outsmarted the Narrator, and left him without any help from the police.
