10 Movie Villains Who Won AFTER They Died
3. Carter J. Burke - Aliens
The Alien universe is full of duplicitous characters seeking to acquire the monstrous Xenomorph, such as Paul Reisser's Carter J. Burke from James Cameron's Aliens (1986).
After Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is rescued from 57 years in hyper-sleep, Burke poses as a caring representative of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, eventually convincing her to join a rescue mission when the company loses contact with Hadley's Hope, a terraforming station on LV-426 (the same planet where Ripley and her fellow Nostromo crew members originally found the Xenomorph).
It is gradually revealed that Burke managed to locate the facehugger eggs from which the Xenomorph is eventually born, hoping to present Weyland-Yutani with a perfect killing machine. When this backfired, killing almost the entire population of Hadley's Hope and creating yet more Xenomorphs, Burke arranged for the Colonial Marines to investigate so that he could use Ripley and Newt (Carrie Henn) as hosts to transport the aliens to the company and increase his own income, killing any surviving Marines in the process. Although the Marines resolved to kill Burke, he was abducted during a Xenomorph attack, likely to become a host for another alien before the planet's atmosphere processor exploded.
However, Burke's plan does eventually succeed as, even though Ripley kills herself to prevent the Xenomorph Queen from reaching Weyland-Yutani in Alien³ (1992), the United Systems Military resurrects both Ripley and the Queen - for what good it does them - in Alien Resurrection (1997).
