10 Movies That Would Actually Benefit From A Remake

10. Jason And The Argonauts (1963)

Although the movie was directed by Don Chaffey, Jason and the Argonauts will forever be associated with Ray Harryhausen, thanks to the most iconic stop-motion work of a long and distinguished career. A bona-fide classic fantasy adventure, it remains a staple of Sunday afternoon television schedules over 50 years after its release. However, under the right circumstances I believe that Jason and the Argonauts would be ripe for the remake treatment. The generation that grew up with this movie were absolutely spoilt for choice when it came to mythological adventures featuring a heroic quest and innumerable gorgeously designed creatures. What do we have? Sam Worthington's turgid, CGI-drenched Titans movies. It just isn't fair. That being said, Clash and Wrath of the Titans grossed almost $800m at the box office despite some vitriolic reviews, so the audience is there for blockbusters based on Greek mythology. It's hard to believe given its standing in the annals of fantasy movie history but Jason and the Argonauts wasn't a smash-hit first time round, and only grossed back twice its $1m budget at the domestic box office. Due to the obvious advancements in both practical and visual effects, in the right hands a remake could be something truly special. Imagine something visually akin to Wolfgang Petersen's Troy (which featured an ancient Greek setting and seamlessly blended practical sets and CG landscapes) that also featured updated versions of Talos, the Hydra and of course, the iconic skeleton fight. If it avoided the pitfalls that blighted the recent Titans movies then a Jason and the Argonauts remake could be old-fashioned entertainment on a blockbuster scale.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
