Everyone loved the first Zoolander movie. Well, unless you were a male model, in which case the film made you out to be a complete idiot.

Starring Ben Stiller as the empty-headed, Blue Steel-ing titular pin-up, Zoolander saw a group of fashion industry bigwigs teams up to stop the assassination of the Prime Minister of Malaysia.

It's better than it sounds.

The first film came out in 2001 and did pretty well at the box office. The franchise lay dormant for 15 years, until Zoolander 2 made its catwalk debut.

Honestly, people would have preferred the IP to have stayed behind the curtain.

Zoolander 2 was horrible. Critics absolutely hated it, labelling it a pale imitation of the original. Also, there was some controversy about the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as a non-binary character, which is just terrific.

To make matters even worse, nobody turned up to see this film. It made just $56.7 million on a $50 million budget, as there just wasn't the appetite for a Zoolander revival that the studio had hoped for.

Maybe they can make good with Zoolander 3 in 2031? Or maybe this series should just be put to bed.
