9. Amityville: The Awakening
Release Date: April 1, 2016 That's right: another one of these. The fourteenth film in the Amityville series is as familiar as the title of the franchise: a family move into a weird old house, only to discover that there's tons of weird stuff going on and... well, you can guess the rest of the story. No, this sequel doesn't seem intent on delivering anything fresh or original - it was even reedited recently so it could receive a PG-13 rating, which suggests that - aside from being low on quality - it'll also be low on blood and scares. A shame, really, given that The Awakening stars the phenomenal talent that is Jennifer Jason Leigh as a down-on-her-luck mom. And yet it's hard to put faith in a director as naff as Franck Khalfoun, who has built a career out of subpar thriller/horror pictures. Also: the film was shot years ago, and has been on the back-burner ever since. Not a good sign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aDT7QTQXt4 Don't be surprised when this unnecessary flick winds up with a 0% score, then.
