10 Movies From 2019 Everyone's Already Forgotten
2. Velvet Buzzsaw
"What's Velvet Buzzsaw?" you may ask.
Velvet Buzzsaw was one of Netflix's very first festival acquisitions of 2019, boasting a talented cast led by Jake Gyleenhaal and directed by Dan Gilroy, famed for his and Gyllenhaal's previous collaboration Nightcrawler.
Velvet Buzzsaw hit the streaming service as one of the first Netflix originals of the year, and sat atop the homepage for about a day before being left to rot in its back catalogue for eternity like most of its original content.
In fairness, Velvet Buzzsaw wasn't very well received. It's a bizarre film that parodies the world of art critics, and not exactly the most accessible film for the masses. Still, it's a film that received early attention at Sundance film festival thanks to the team behind it and saw a mediocre response once it hit streaming. Don't expect this to be talked about with the same enthusiasm as Nightcrawler any time soon.
