10 Movies Missing From Warner Bros.' DCEU Slate (And Why)

The DC Extended Universe would be so much better if these movies were out by now...

Deathstroke Justice League
Warner Bros.

Since launching in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has produced hit after hit, and last year's culmination of a decade's worth of stories led to Marvel Studios releasing the highest grossing film of all-time in Avengers: Endgame. The DC Extended Universe is a little younger, nowhere near as successful, and now no longer a true "shared world."

However, with a change in leadership which has seen Walter Hamada take charge of these DC Comics adaptations, there are now movies slated for as far as 2022.

That's good news for fans, but there are still a lot of movies which should have either been released by now or at least have confirmed release dates; instead, those are absolutely nowhere to be seen. Whether it's down to a new creative direction or reasons its still hard to understand, some of these could one day happen, whereas others remain seemingly trapped in development hell.

Here, we take a look at the movies missing from Warner Bros.' current DCEU slate, and delve into why we haven't seen them, the possibility that they might still one day become a reality, and what the plan for each of them originally was...

10. Nightwing

Deathstroke Justice League
DC Comics

In February 2017, it was revealed that The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay had signed on to direct a live-action Nightwing movie from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque. The filmmaker spent months teasing the project on social media, but as time went on, it started looking like Warner Bros. was in no rush to make this one happen.

Well, we finally got an update last year thanks to Forbes, and it doesn't bode well for this project's future. Because Matt Reeves is now in charge of The Batman franchise, Nightwing has been put on hold due to the director reportedly having his own plans for Dick Grayson.

Bear in mind that The Batman is set to be standalone in nature, so this former Robin having his own adventures in the DCEU's Gotham City after parting ways with the Caped Crusader really wouldn't make sense. Had Ben Affleck remained in the role, Nightwing likely would have become a reality (especially as his Batman had been fighting crime for decades).

As it stands, Nightwing isn't going anywhere fast, and his movie is on indefinite hold.
