10 Movies That Actually Benefited From Bad Acting

Perhaps no movie star in history has had their acting merits - or arguable lack thereof - debated as feverishly as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Arnie's phenomenally successful career is a testament to his committed work ethic, incredible physique, and sheer charm, if less about his dramatic acting chops, as is no more evident than in The Terminator.

James Cameron's 1984 sci-fi horror is the movie that put both director and star on the map, and in selecting Schwarzenegger to play the titular murderous cyborg, Cameron made arguably one of the shrewdest casting choices in cinema history.

There's no mistaking the distracting awkwardness of Arnie's acting throughout the film, yet that robotic quality is ultimately quite perfect for the role of a killing machine impersonating a human.

That there's something totally "off" about the inexperienced Schwarzenegger's performance only makes his infiltrator cyborg that much more unnerving to observe.

Combined with some of the makeup department's more inspired choices - such as spraying his face with Vaseline to give it an offputtingly fake sheen and later shaving his eyebrows - Schwarzenegger's clunky performance is molded in just the right way by Cameron. The rest, of course, is history.
