10 Movies That Are FINALLY Happening

3. Sleeping Dogs

Back in 2017, it was announced that an adaptation of 2012's open world action game Sleeping Dogs was in development, with Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious) set to produce and Donnie Yen starring as protagonist Wei Shen.

However, development stalled for many years, with Yen confirming earlier this year that his iteration of the movie was indeed dead. But mere weeks later, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu revealed that he was working to obtain the rights to a Sleeping Dogs movie, and shortly thereafter it was announced that pre-production was in full swing, with Liu set to both produce and star.

This is a fascinating amount of progress considering that Sleeping Dogs was enough of a sales disappointment for publisher Square Enix that they cancelled an in-development sequel. The prospect of this modestly well-liked Grand Theft Auto clone that underperformed on launch getting a movie roughly 15 years later is nothing short of wild.

But in the very least, Simu Liu seems like a perfect fit for the lead, and so hopefully the production can attract a filmmaker well-versed in bone-crunching action.
