3. You've Got Mail (AOL)
Granted, it's sorta difficult to make a movie about e-mail that doesn't feature an e-mail client in it, and at the time AOL was really the only big, recognisable e-mail provider, so director Nora Ephron saw it as a great excuse to plaster AOL's name - and, of course, that signature "You've Got Mail!" announcement - all over the movie, to the extent that their slogan takes over the damn title! The plot revolves around two real-life enemies (Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan) who end up falling in love by way of AOL's e-mail service. Though a modern take on the play Parfumerie by Miklós László, there's little to take away from this thinly-sketched romantic comedy which, despite boasting decent chemistry between the leads, doesn't amount to much more than an advertisement from top to bottom.
