10 Movies That Broke Promises To Fans

5. The Title Wasn't Spoken In Avengers: Infinity War - Avengers: Endgame

A slightly more harmless broken promise now, but one that nevertheless left many Marvel fans feeling thoroughly bait-and-switched.

Shortly after the release of Avengers: Infinity War, directors the Russo brothers insisted to fans that the title for the fourth Avengers film was not spoken in Infinity War.

As such, many fans came to expect that Avengers 4 would end up being titled "Avengers: Annihilation" rather than the previously suspected Avengers: Endgame, only for the first trailer to reveal that, in fact, it was indeed called Avengers: Endgame.

Fans were miffed given that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) memorably says, "We're in the endgame now," in Infinity War's third act after surrendering the Time Stone to Thanos (Josh Brolin), and so clearly the Russos were straight-up misleading inquisitive fans.

Again, it's ultimately pretty innocuous as far as broken promises go, but given how invested many fans get in piecing together the trail of pre-release breadcrumbs left by the filmmakers, it was pretty disappointing that the Russos just flatly lied about it.
