10 Movies That Broke Promises To Fans
3. Edward Furlong Is Returning To The Franchise - Terminator: Dark Fate
At last summer's San Diego Comic-Con, Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller and producer-writer James Cameron announced that, in addition to reuniting Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, the sequel would be bringing Edward Furlong back into the fold to reprise the role of John Connor.
Give that Furlong famously lost out on his Terminator 3 role due to his substance abuse issues at the time, it was major news to fans, who have desired to see Furlong back as Connor since his iconic performance as the future resistance leader in 1991's T2.
But as it turned out, Furlong's "role" in the film wasn't much of one at all. The troubled actor appeared on set for a single day to have his likeness motion-captured, all for the sake of the film's opening sequence where his younger self is murdered by a T-800 Terminator (Schwarzenegger).
Furlong's likeness was pasted over a stand-in actor's body to convincingly replicate his teenage self, and as impressive as the results were, it nevertheless felt like a huge slap in the face to fans hoping to see Furlong truly back in the series again.
That's to say nothing of the direction the rest of the movie took, effectively rehashing the plot of the first two movies while begging the audience to forget about Connor entirely. Terrible.
