10 Movies That Changed Your Mind About Actors You Hated

5. Argo - Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck pretty much drove his popularity into the ground when he chose to appear in one bad movie after another at the dawn of the millennium. Never considered to be much of an actor anyway, it was the putrid combination of both Gigli and Daredevil that really seemed to cement the poor guy as "somebody who should disappear forever, please," despite the fact that he'd already proved himself to be a worthwhile writer (he won an Oscar for penning the script for Good Will Hunting). Still, with the public on his case, he disappeared for a while, and remerged as a director. And what a director he turned out to be! Since 2007, Affleck has made three genuinely brilliant movies in Gone Baby Gone, The Town and Argo, all of which were released to critical acclaim, the latter two of which actually featured Ben Affleck as the lead actor. And somewhat surprisingly... he seemed to have actually improved as a performer, and proved himself capable of playing two protagonists without irritating the hell out of us. With his Best Picture win for Argo, of course, the world officially forgave Affleck for all his wrong-doing, and decided they'd start treating him with some respect (it didn't last long).
