10 Movies That Could Be 2018's Sleeper Hits

5. The Predator

After Alien vs Predator almost killed the franchise and Nimrod Antal's underrated Predators didn't to well enough to warrant a sequel, the dreadlocked alien bounty hunters finally join the Xenomorphs in receiving the big-budget reboot treatment.

There are many reasons to be quietly excited by The Predator, not least the presence of Shane Black as director and co-writer. One of the original movie's ensemble cast, Black went on to become one of the most talented writers in the business before eventually moving behind the camera.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys proved that Black had lost none of his ability to craft a razor-sharp script, with Iron Man 3 showing that he was just as comfortable handling studio blockbusters as he was low-budget crime stories.

The Predator could suffer from overcrowding at the box office due to an early August release date. It hits theaters just a week after Mission: Impossible 6 and on the same day as The Equalizer 2, two movies targeting the exact same audience.

Despite a recent resurgence in big-budget sci-fi doing well commercially, if the final product isn't up to scratch, then it faces an uphill battle to remain relevant even in August.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
