10 Movies That Had MASSIVE Tomatometer Drops
4. Wonder Woman 1984
Initial Score: 90%
Final Score: 60% (30% drop)
Wonder Woman 1984 was by far the most high-profile blockbuster released in 2020, though the discourse surrounding the film was intensely focused on its baffling Tomatometer score.
When the review embargo lifted, all signs were good, with the sequel touting an impressive 90% after almost 70 reviews, just a few points below the original film's 93%.
But when the rest of the press were given access to the film, the Tomatometer score began to violently tumble downwards, briefly entering Rotten territory before settling at 60%.
In addition to losing its Certified Fresh status - which Warner Bros. had even included in the film's Christmas marketing - Wonder Woman 1984's average score had also dropped from 7.4/10 to 6.1/10.
Numerous articles were published about the suspiciousness of that early critical praise, with many suggesting that Warner Bros. had carefully hand-picked the first wave of critics, selecting those who were likely to be more favourable to the movie than general reviewers.
Given that discussions about the movie have been dominated by the subject of its critical reception, it's safe to say that the move most definitely backfired for the studio.
