10 Movies That Made Actors QUIT Forever
5. Mara Wilson - Matilda (1996)
Thanks to her roles in Mrs Doubtfire (1993), Miracle on 34th Street (1994) and then Matilda (1996), child actress Mara Wilson came to represent just how wholesome and lovely the movies could be.
Her roles often revolving around the themes of family, friendship and love, Wilson was on track to become an undisputed megastar.
But during the filming of her most famous movie, Matilda, Wilson suffered a personal tragedy when her mother sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. This, mixed with Wilson's assessment that she didn't fit in with what Hollywood wanted from its stars, led to the actress taking a step back from her career.
She appeared in a handful more films, most prominently Thomas and the Magic Railroad (2000), but ended up retiring that year.
Wilson later admitted that she never really enjoyed making movies, and that "Film acting is not very fun." She would return to acting briefly in 2016 for an episode of the sit-com Broad City, and had a voice role in both BoJack Horseman and Big Hero 6: The Series.
Aside from these brief forays back into acting, Wilson these days focuses on her writing and has released a memoir about what it's like to be a child star in Hollywood.
