10 Movies That Ruin The Credibility Of The IMDb Top 250

2. 3 Idiots (2009)

A couple of years ago, the IMDb made a change in its Top 250 algorithm that resulted in Bollywood movies suddenly being eligible for the rankings.

As such, classic Indian films like Sholay were suddenly rubbing shoulders with movies like Pulp Fiction, Inception, and Full Metal Jacket. Sholay, of course, deserves its place and is a one of the greatest films to come out of India in the '70s, but this tweak has also allowed for some unwelcome additions, too.

Namely, we're talking about a film called 3 Idiots, a fairly likeable - if not insufferably overlong - Bollywood comedy about three slackers that has more in common with The Hangover than it does, say, Some Like It Hot. Viewed objectively, 3 Idiots has no business being in the Top 250 - one can only assume that it's there thanks to India's immense population (1.2 billion, if you're wondering). Those votes go a long way.

Diversity is a good thing, no question about it; it's just a shame that it's represented on the Top 250 by a modern Bollywood film that is "good" instead of "great." There's a real danger that the list could - one day - find itself overwhelmed with middling fare.
