10 Movies That Should Have Been Horror
8. 127 Hours
Written and directed by Danny Boyle and starring James Franco as canyoneer Aron Ralston, 127 Hours already has a storyline that revolves around a real nightmare scenario going for it. Based off a real story involving Ralston, the film revolves around the canyoneer being trapped between two boulders and his subsequent battle for survival.
With his right arm pinned behind a boulder, Aron begins rationing out his food, water and supplies and begins recording a video diary to try and help keep himself staying sane. After six days, he musters up the drive to break and then amputate his arm and slide himself to freedom. It's a remarkable story, a real example of the human will to survive against all costs and makes for a thrilling watch.
However, as ever with something as gruesome as an amputation serving as a key plot point, there's the possibility of taking things up a gear and bringing out the true horror of the situation a little more.
Not only could they easily throw in a little more body horror by showing all the ins and outs of Aron's amputation, there's also every chance of playing around with the torment and depression the canyoneer experiences through all his flashbacks and hallucinations whilst trapped that could have made for an even more shocking experience.
