10 Movies That Should Have Been Horror

9. Contagion

Featuring a star-studded cast ranging from the likes of Matt Damon, Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne, Contagion is a science fiction thriller released back in 2011.

In the wake of various medical pandemics around the world, director Steven Soderbergh and writer Scott Burns were inspired to produce a film that revolved around a viral infection spreading across the world, and humanity's response to such a threat.

The film features the Soderbergh-staple method of shooting from multiple perspectives and focusing each story on a different theme. Matt Damon's character Mitch is the 'normal everyday man' that shows off how society can break down in times of crisis, whilst Fishburne's character of Dr. Ellis Cheever is the embodiment of the research and scientific responses to such a disaster, for example.

Being released nearly a decade ago now, Contagion was written and filmed just before the wave of dystopian horror movies began sweeping across the world. It's easy to imagine a film like Contagion throwing in some biological body horror to really ramp things up to the next level.

Praise has already been thrown to the filmmakers for preparing a movie so committed to scientific accuracy, so really going out of their way to showcase the effects of such a virus could have made Contagion one of the go-tos for a terrifying look at an alternate reality.
