10 Movies That Should Have Been Horror

2. Jurassic Park

One of the undeniable greats of movie history, Jurassic Park is a 1993 timeless classic that already blurs the lines between action, adventure and outright horror.

The film follows John Hammond, the eccentric owner of an island just off the coast of Costa Rica who has found a way of recreating and breeding dinosaurs in the hopes of opening a theme park. When his investors begin to get itchy feet following the death of a worker, he recruits a range of specialists to help get the green light on the park.

Naturally things go array quite quickly upon arriving at the park, and the characters are forced to evade all manner of prehistoric predators before escaping the island.

The visuals are spectacular, the acting is superb and the wonder of seeing dinosaurs rampaging around is unquestionable, however there's no denying how brilliant it would have been had Jurassic Park gone down the horror route a little more.

Most of the dinosaurs' kills are naturally obscured or take place off screen entirely, save for arguably the best sequence in the film involving Donald Gennaro and a toilet, so seeing these unrestricted would have really sold the terror of the entire situation much more and left a far greater impression for audiences to take away with them.
