10 Movies That Should Have Been Horror
1. Parasite
Undoubtedly one of the best films released in the past decade, Parasite is a 2019 film directed by Bong Joon-ho and follows the poor Kim family. As a way of earning more money and tasting a bit more of the good life, the family pose as unrelated, but decently qualified, workers for the wealthy Park household.
Blurring the lines between atmospheric tension, suspense and an outright black comedy, Parasite is a film that revels in messing with the audience's minds. So many nods and hints are layered in throughout, and the cinematography does a great job in selling enough fakes in each scene that helps keep a viewer's attention away from what is right in front of them.
It also has some of the heaviest revelations and surprisingly bloody moments before its curtain closes. Whilst these heavy themes and slasher-like moments aren't exactly the point of the film, it's easy to imagine them taking up more of the stage and being given more of the limelight in an outright horror flick.
Parasite is undoubtedly a mastery in cinematography and suspense, but with a more horror-focused perspective on the secrets and truly sinister moments unearthed as its runtime goes on, it could have easily been propelled to a legendary level.
