10 Movies That Would Have Been Ruined By Happy Endings

7. The Blair Witch Project

Out of all genres, you would think that horror movies would be the most willing to forego the happy endings where the protagonist makes it to the end credits with their life intact, overcoming the killer or monster, but surprisingly that€™s not the case at all. Too often, filmmakers immerse in their worlds populated with mayhem and negativity and then try to tie it all up in a neat little bow at the end, and that is not always something wanted. 1999's "The Blair Witch Project" is a revolutionary movie, popularizing the found footage format that horror moviemakers have been bludgeoning for over a decade now and being one of the most profitable movies of all-time. It's also notable for being one of the first pieces of media to utilize viral marketing, with the brilliant hype surrounding the movie leading many to believe that the footage contained within was actually real. One of the more polarizing horror flicks of all-time, €œBlair Witch€ is either loved or hated by viewers with very little middle ground, but there€™s no denying the impact it had on the genre as well as independent filmmaking in general. The end of the movie sees the remaining two students ostensibly meet their end in the €œcabin in the woods€, with the abrupt camera drop leading to the end of the film. Had this movie ended any other way, not only would it have killed the momentum built up from the terrifying ride, it also would have dispelled the myth that had been created by those who had sworn the film was authentic.
