10 Movies They Keep Saying Will Be Made (That Never Will)

6. Chronicle 2

TRon 3 Olivia Wilde
20th Century Fox

Back when Chronicle debuted in 2012 it was a surprise hit for Fox, and they wanted to get going on a sequel as soon as possible. Considering that the best part of the film was the wicked smart script by writer Max Landis, Fox wisely tapped Landis to write the sequel and by March of 2012 The Hollywood Reporter announced that the sequel was fully in production.

Followers of Landis’ wildly popular twitter account followed along with his progress on the sequel’s script – a project he was incredibly excited about – and got their hopes up every time he mentioned the project in the media. He explained that the project would follow the creation of the Chronicle universe’s first supervillain, which would eventually culminate in an Avengers style connected universe. But then in 2013 word got out that Fox hated Landis’ ideas and balked at his script.

Landis (as well as his father, director John Landis) confirmed that Fox didn’t like the new, darker direction that he had taken the sequel and wanted more of the same for Chronicle 2. When Landis refused, Fox hired a new writer, Jack Stanley, to write the script. Last we heard the movie wasn’t officially dead, but we know well enough to read between the lines and give up hope.

The only silver lining here is that for fans excited about Landis’ Chronicle 2 concept, his script for the sequel, entitled Martyr, is floating around online should anyone wish to read it.

Jake Black writes the funny, weird, interesting things that you love reading. He's super cool, really famous, and everyone likes him. He's never once been punched in the face by Johnny Depp on a ferry traveling to Southampton, England.
