10 Movies They Keep Saying Will Be Made (That Never Will)

5. Arrested Development

And now for the story of the most teased film of all time, and the fans who spent over a decade hearing about it – it’s Arrested Development.

Ever since the (then) series finale of Arrested Development teased a feature film, the show’s creator Mitch Hurwitz, and literally everyone else tied to the show, hasn’t stopped talking about it. It was the topic to ask rising stars Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, and Will Arnett about after the show went off the air in 2006. Every time someone was interviewed, a new headline would appear that promised the movie was coming soon.

In 2008 series producer/narrator Ron Howard was set to direct, Mitch Hurwitz told the press about different ideas that he had for the film that kept changing, and every few months another update would come. Then in 2013 Netflix revived the show for a fourth season, and the plan then was for the season to lead into the movie. That was literally the only reason for the fourth season to exist – to set up the long-promised film.

After the fourth season came and went Hurwitz still insisted that he was working on the film and that a fifth Netflix season would come after it. Then, in 2014, then 2015, then 2016, not to mention 2017, the movie was still being made, but the plan shifted – the fifth season would come first.

Now the fifth season is being filmed and will premiere on Netflix in 2018, but what about that long promised movie? Yeah, don’t count on it.
