10 Movies They Keep Saying Will Be Made (That Never Will)
3. Austin Powers 4
The production news (and promises) of Austin Powers 4 read more like a diary entry from a schizophrenic than actual updates from a Hollywood production:
In 2005, Mike Myers mentioned that there was hope for a fourth film, explaining that he was talking to the studio and that he missed doing the characters.
In 2007 Myers explained that the film was “fully conceived” and that it would be from Dr. Evil’s point of view. He said that as soon as (box office mega-bomb) The Love Guru was completed, he’d get to work on Austin Powers 4.
2008 came and Myers revealed that he had begun writing the script and that the film was “one of those things that will emerge or it won’t.” Okay...
In 2010 director Jay Roach said that Myers was still working on ideas for the film and in 2011 Myers once again said he was writing a script for Austin Powers 4.
In 2013, when asked what was happening with the film, Myers was quoted as saying “I’m still figuring that out.”
Fast forward to 2016, when Jay Roach told Larry King that Myers’ ideas for the film were "interesting."
In 2017, Myers stated his desire to make Austin Powers 4, and Jay Roach said that the film would only happen “if Myers creates a good story for it.” It seems safe to say, after well over a decade of updates, Myers still hasn’t cracked that story and Austin Powers 4 is never coming.
