10 Movies With Terrible Life Messages

4. Ignorance Is Bliss - Forrest Gump

Forrest Gump is a fantastic film that managed to scoop the Academy Award for Best Picture in a year that had indelible classics such as The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction. It's brilliant, but its critical reception in no way reflects its general regard with audiences, and that's because of the subtext that many reviewers percieved within the heart-warming story, which suggests that ignorance is bliss. Throughout the film, Tom Hanks' titular protagonist is no doubt an ignorant, simple person, often not realising the weight of the events taking place around him or being troubled by the same concerns that can bother most folks. Thus he appears to adopt a cheery, inquisitive attitude towards situations that would deeply affect most regular folk. The film seems to suggest, given how Forrest manages to have such a successful, wholesome life simply by the virtue of being a nice, simple guy, that this really is the best way to live. His unassuming attitude and optimistic demeanour - likely due to not fully understanding the majority of what goes on around him - and the result of that seems to suggest that we could all do well to be a little more like Forrest, or at least, it would make us happier and give us an easier life.
