10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Named After Songs

4. Peggy Sue Got Married

Chris Evans Knives Out
TriStar Pictures

This 1986 comedy drama centres around a disillusioned married woman who time travels back to her senior year in college, after fainting at her high school reunion. Starring Kathleen Turner and Nicolas Cage, and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, the film was a box office and critical success. It was also nominated for three Oscars.

The title of the film comes from a Buddy Holly song of the same name. A follow up to his hit Peggy Sue, Holly never got chance to record the song properly before his untimely demise in a plane crash in February 1959. He had recorded a demo with vocals and guitar of the song just two months prior. Backing vocals and instruments were added after his death, and the song was released in July later that year.

Although the film is set in 1960, a year after the song's release, it would still use Holly's tune in the soundtrack of the film.
