10 Movies You Had No Idea Joss Whedon Worked On
1. Toy Story
Not long after work began on Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Whedon was approached by Pixarin his capacity as a script-doctor to fix John Lasseter's script for 1999's Toy Story . Whedon already had ties with Disney, so he was the natural choice to get Woody and the gang whipped into shape.
Whedon is credited with the screenplay of the film. In Whedon's own recollections of the project, the story was all Lasseter's (with the core concepts of toys coming to life and the conflict that exists within that) but the script that he was sent was in shambles. As Whedon describes it, it was "the dream job for a script doctor: a great structure with a script that doesn't work... I was thrilled".
Whedon ended up working on Toy Story for four months before the film could start to be put together. At that point, Whedon left the team to pursue other projects, but came back a couple of months later when it was clear the film wasn't working and drastic changes needed to be made. Whedon ended up working on the film for six more months, rewriting and story-boarding until the tone was the marvel it is today.
