10 Movies You Had No Idea Joss Whedon Worked On

A week before they started shooting Speed, Joss Whedon was brought onto Speed to rework pretty much all of the dialouge, in order to give each character the voice that best suited what the original script writer Graham Yost intended. He also worked to make the characterization and dialogue feel more 'real'. Yost has been open about Whedon's involvement in working on the script, and although he didn't play a major role in plot direction, Whedon is proud of the work and effort he spent on Speed.

Perhaps one of the most devastating slights in his career is Whedon's extensive work on Speed going uncredited. Yost and the studio were happy to include his writer's credit, and some posters were even printed with his name included (Whedon did keep one for his collection), but this credit was taken away by the Writer's Guild of America due to WGA bylaws that argued changes need to amend the plot significantly to warrant a credit, and Whedon's work was focused more on characterization, not plot.

Irrespective of this, Whedon (a fan of writing TV more than films) considers Speed one of the only films that he has worked on that he actually likes.
