10 Movies You Must Watch 1000 Times To Spot This

1. The Pooping Shipmate - Master & Commander: The Far Side Of The World

When you've gotta go, you've gotta go.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is a ludicrously entertaining naval epic, and one that isn't afraid to embrace historical detail despite the potential for it to evoke laughter. If you manage to catch it, that is.

Case in point, when the HMS Surprise is travelling through choppy southern waters while rounding Cape Horn, for a few brief moments a crew member can be spotted relieving his bowels at the head situated at the bow of the ship.

As a piece of visual storytelling this is totally "unnecessary" by any standard definition, but nevertheless adds a pinch of gritty authenticity - and unexpected comedy - for those few who have ever noticed it.

You get a lot of great things hiring a brilliant auteur like Peter Weir to direct your movie, including a meticulous commitment to nautical bowel movements, apparently.
