10 Movies You Turned Off After The Opening Scene
2. A Serbian Film (2010)
There are some films you'll want to turn off after the opening scene - A Serbian Film is one you probably should turn off, if you value your sanity. Created in opposition to an increasingly commercial film industry, director Srđan Spasojević had this to say (from tportal.hr, translated by Wiki) on Serbian cinema:
... Pathetic state financed films made by people who have no sense or connection to film, but are strongly supported by foreign funds. Quality of the film is not their concern, only the bureaucratic upholding of the rule book on political correctness.
Well, he had a point to make and wow, we got you loud and clear. The opening scene in this masochistic nightmare of a movie brings us the delightful image of a young boy watching pornography starring his own father, Milos. There will be no more detail here, this scene is bad enough but what follows makes that part feel like watching Mary Poppins in a pillow factory.
Milos is lured out of retirement and is led to a secret location where he believes he will be filming and adult movie. What follows is a snuff shoot and like so many things in life, the more Milos struggles, the worse it gets. Many will have turned this film off after the opening scene so please tread carefully if you decide to watch this film - it was banned in multiple countries for very fair reasons.
