10 Movies You Won’t Believe Are Turning 20 In 2021

2. Donnie Darko

Although Donnie Darko failed at the box office, it soon developed its own cult following and it’s not hard to see why. With one of the most interesting ensemble of cast members (Drew Barrymore, Patrick Swayze and Seth Rogen all in one film), a tangible level of suspense, a terrific soundtrack and a great mix of genres, Donnie Darko practically lends itself to being so easily rewatchable.

The titular character is an angsty teenager who has narrowly avoided death, but has since been overrun by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit manipulating him to commit a number of crimes. The film left viewers divided as some felt the plot lacked coherency and the writing was messy, whilst others appreciated the movie’s themes and deliberate unanswered questions it left open.

Donnie Darko has kept people talking for years about its ambiguous ending and what the film truly means. In fact, fans have been pondering over the conclusion for so long, they may not have realised that this cult classic is now twenty years old.
