2001 sure was a great year for book-to-movie adaptations. The Harry Potter franchise was a global phenomenon as the film series converted many fantasy lovers to become Potterheads and turned a lot of the younger generation to reading.

The first instalment of the Harry Potter movie series – The Philosopher’s Stone – isn’t considered the best one, perhaps because the film franchise was still finding its voice. However, it is where the magic began as it laid down the basics for the series and transferred many key components from the book, as well as bring to life the magical Hogwarts that readers had only imagined for themselves.

It’s hard to remember a time when we didn’t have Harry Potter in our lives and in some ways, it’s not surprising that the franchise is decades old now. That said, the wizardly world was a huge part of people’s childhoods and it’s a little daunting to realise just how long ago our love for Harry Potter began.
