10 Nearly Cast Actors Who Would Have Ruined Great Comedy Films

1. Eric Stoltz As Marty McFly In "Back to the Future"

mcfly 2 - Another controversial choice seeing as, once again, the actor involved was hired for the film, but dammit, I do love to break the rules and this is such an important movie to so many of us: Although Michael J. Fox was director Robert Zemeckis' first pick to play the time travelling icon Marty McFly he was, to begin with, unable to take on the role due to scheduling conflicts with his television projects. Instead, Zemeckis settled for Eric Stoltz, though for the whole time that Stoltz was involved Zemeckis knew that something was amiss and that he wasn't capturing the vision of the project he had to begin with. Many scenes were shot with Stoltz during his six week stint as Marty McFly before it was agreed that he was "too intense" for the family film and graciously bowed out of the limelight. Thankfully for the rest of us Fox was able to sort out his busy schedule and fit the film in with his other commitments. There's plenty of footage available of Stoltz playing Marty "on the web", as the hip kids of today say, if such things tickle your fancy.
