10 Netflix Original Movies That Are Better Than You Remember

2. The Cloverfield Paradox

Remember when Netflix unceremoniously announced that they'd be releasing another Cloverfield film right after the Superbowl, with only one trailer to precede it?

That was The Cloverfield Paradox and the internet collectively went insane. Cloverfield mania started when the original found footage film stirred up a frenzy of theories and potential sequels. This only continued further with 10 Cloverfield Lane. The Cloverfield Paradox sees a space station attempt to generate a new source of energy to help save the world, only to be transported to an alternate universe. Oops.

The problem with The Cloverfield Paradox was that it was originally a completely different film that was bought by Netflix. Originally it was God Particle, and then a few reshoots flung it into the Cloverfield universe. And those reshoots are very obvious as they obtusely stick out in the main plot.

But the horror elements of the film work spectacularly. Like when there's a haunting wailing sound coming from within a wall, or missing parts materialising inside someone's body.

Ultimately, the film falters because of the reshoots, but the tense nature of the film works extremely well. It's a shame it was hastily stuffed into the Cloverfield universe, because if it had flourished of its own volition, this could have been something truly great. Still, it's worth a watch.
