10 Netflix Original Movies That Are Better Than You Remember
1. Bright
David Ayer started off so well with the gritty war flick, Fury and then nose-dived with Suicide Squad and Bright. But is the latter actually that bad, or was the ever rolling hate train of Twitter too quick to judge? Well, not quite.
It's not fantastic, but that is largely down to the script. Everything else is actually quite fascinating. Humans and Orcs working together as police officers in Los Angeles as Magic Wands are treated as Weapons of Mass Destruction? That's definitely a fresh take.
Will Smith played a character that is essentially cut and pasted from a variety of other action movies he's starred in. He's half Bad Boys, a quarter Independence Day and a quarter Seven Pounds. An interesting combination at least. But the special effects of the all the creatures shown throughout are genuinely great, Joel Edgerton is unrecognisable as his Orc partner.
David Ayer clearly has an eye for action, as some of the set pieces are can be riveting. It's just a shame that Max Landis' script is extremely poor, with every character spitting out their lines. None of it feels natural in this world, and the writing makes the script sound like a TV pilot. But as a fantasy adventure flick with excellent special effects, it works just fine.
