10 'New' Actors That Have Been Around Longer Than You Think

9. Karl Urban

Karlurban Karl Urban has become quite the star in the geek community, after playing characters in several high-profile properties including the second and third Lord of the Rings films, The Chronicles of Riddick, Doom, RED, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, and Dredd. Though Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers was his big breakout role, he stole the show in the 2009's Star Trek as Dr. Leonard McCoy, for which he received several award nominations. He seems to have truly hit his stride in the last decade, but has actually been acting for 23 years. He got his start in New Zealand in 1990 in television, before playing Cupid and Caesar in both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess in 1996. His first Hollywood role was Ghost Ship in 2002, followed by LOTR. He was also in the running to play James Bond, before the role went to Daniel Craig. Next, he'll be heading back to the small screen, as the lead in JJ Abrams' new show, Almost Human.
