10 New Year's Resolutions For 2013's Biggest Movie Characters

1. To Stop Meddling - Gandalf (The Desolation Of Smaug)

Gandalf is a man of many names but whichever he chooses to go by the man is renowned as a powerful wizard. He comes to people when it's time for them to embark on epic quests filled with riches and peril, so basically there's never a dull moment with the guy. He spots and combats world-shaping threats tirelessly; surely there is nothing bad to be said of him? Of course there is, because nobody's perfect. And Gandalf is a terrible meddler who gets up in everybody's business constantly. When some poor hobbits (especially with the surname Baggins) are settled in and enjoying life he can't just let it be and instead whisks them away and changes their entire world-view to the point they'll happily abandon their friends to live with the elves on some magic island. He's terrible for uprooting people and messing with their lives. In the end I suppose it's for the greater good but I think a good resolution for Gandalf would be to stop meddling as much. He should take some time out and let others do the same instead of sticking his nose into their business. Think about it: River Town looks set to be barbecued because of his genius plan in The Desolation Of Smaug to reinstate a Dwarven king under the mountain, and it's not like anything he does is going to stop Sauron rising again. Do the ends really justify the means? We'll have to wait until next year to find out (or read the book, whichever) but it's very obvious that he's never going to stop being a prolific meddler. It's his whole bit. Do you agree with these choices? What characters do you think need resolutions? Head to the comments section and let us know.
