6. The Art Department Dustbin - Independence Day

The end of the world courtesy of an alien invasion would be enough to send anybody off the rails. You see this in Independence Day, when satellite engineer David (Jeff Goldblum), gets drunk and starts destroying laboratory equipment once he learns about nuclear missiles being used to fight the invaders. "I'm making a mess," as he puts it. His bemused father (Judd Hirsch) then needs to go and talk some sense into his son, providing the spark David needs for his plan to fight back.

David is not the only one guilty of cluttering up the place, though. When David staggers and falls, one of the dustbins is clearly labelled 'Art Dept'. It can be safely assumed that an Area 51 secret lab housing a derelict alien spacecraft wouldn't have in-house artists. So it looks like some of the art department crew for the film left them behind on the set.

These bins made inadvertent (and difficult to spot) cameos during one of Independence Day's key turning points. Who knows, maybe if David hadn't knocked over the bins, his father would never have had the heart-to-heart with him that inspired David to use a computer virus against the aliens. One man's trash really is another man's treasure.
