10 Opening Horror Movie Scenes That Should've Been Cut
3. The Myers Household - Halloween (2007)
Rob Zombie's 2007 Halloween remake had a lot to prove right out of the gate, and given the filmmaker's aggressive desire to make audiences as viscerally uncomfortable as possible, of course it begins with a totally skin-crawling look at young Michael Myers' (Daeg Faerch) dysfunctional family.
The film's first four minutes are a festival of strange and bad decisions, from the laughably flowery opening quote from Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowell) about the origins of evil to the loud rock music that plays out as we meet Michael and his family, to the gutter-mouthed exchange that follows between Michael's mother Deborah (Sheri Moon Zombie) and her boyfriend Ronnie (William Forsythe).
The quick-to-anger Ronnie tells Deb, "I will crawl over there and skull-f**k the s**t out of you," before telling Michael's sister Judith (Hanna R. Hall) that she has "a nice little dumper." Oh, and baby Laurie screams her head off throughout the scene, too.
If the sequence effectively conveys the utter turmoil of Michael's early home life, it's also completely unbearable to sit through and feels woefully out of place in a Halloween movie of all things.
While John Carpenter's original film speedily kicked off with young Michael murdering his sister, Rob Zombie's remake first made us sit through this vulgar nonsense.
