10 Out Of This World Sci-Fi Horror Movie Deaths

1. The Human Spider Egg - The Mist

What sort of sick and twisted thing did The Shawshank Redemption helmer Frank Darabont have to pull off in order to outdo Alien's chest-burster, Scanners' exploding head, and The Thing's... well, everything?

The director's third Stephen King adaptation The Mist was released to critical acclaim but audience indifference in 2007. Following the misfortunes of a small group of survivors trapped inside a massive supermarket during the eponymous weather phenomenon, this slow-burn sci-fi horror sees the group splinter and grow hostile once it becomes clear that the pea-souper outside contains inter-dimensional monstrosities. But it's not their breakdown that this list is interested in.

No, the notable moment from this flick comes during an ill-fated excursion to a nearby pharmacy which is overrun with oversized spider monsters. The group encounter a few soldiers who previously attempted to grab provisions from the store, only to stumble across one poor, poor spider-filled man who is acting as a still-living human cocoon for the monsters.

He stands, swaying, and reveals a pustule covered chest which is currently teeming with spiders just beneath its surface. Then one breaks through the skin of his face, crawling across his still-blinking eyes. Then another.

This horrific sci-fi horror icon survives just long enough to tell them to run, which unsurprisingly is also long enough for his fate to be frozen in the viewer's nightmares for life.
