10 Outlandish The Dark Knight Rises Rumours That Didn't Come True

4. Ellen Page Is Batgirl

Speculation: It's one of those rumours that sounded semi-plausible, but was just so suspicious in its conception that it wasn't easy to fully buy into, that Ellen Page, who previously played in Nolan's Inception, was going to star in Rises as Commissioner Gordon's grown daughter Barbara, who would later become Batgirl. This rumour came to be when a set spy reportedly snooped around The Dark Knight Rises' New York set and took a picture of a trailer with the name "E. Page", under which the moniker "B. Gordon" was written. We barely get a glimpse of Gordon's daughter in The Dark Knight, but given the giant chasm of time between that and Rises, it might actually follow that she would be in her late teens by the time Bane began his reign of terror. Some even speculated that she might team up with Batman and Catwoman for the final stand against Bane and...whoever else was helping him. Fact: Predictably, this one turned out to be complete bunk, if only for the fact that if Christopher Nolan was going to cast a major actress in the role of a major character of Batman lore, he probably wouldn't brazenly plaster such details over the actor's trailer. That combined with the poor quality of the camera footage making it easily manipulated/faked/knocked up in a random parking lot makes it not really at all surprising that this one was eventually dismissed. Those with access to the film's New York set confirmed that the trailer photographed was not the sort being used on the actual set, and the suspicious timing of the leaked image - quickly after Empire released the information that it would be set 8 years after The Dark Knight - compounds this.
